This appointment helps consolidate Gael’s recent growth in domestic and international sales of their portfolio of Quality, Safety and Risk Management solutions.

Gael Ltd, developers of Quality, Safety and Risk Management software has announced today that Jim Mather, Scotland’s former Enterprise Minister, has become their Chairman.

Mather will provide strategic guidance to help Gael achieve their ambitious plans for significant growth in Aviation, Oil & Gas, Healthcare and Manufacturing sectors at home and abroad.

He will also assist Gael’s sister company MindGenius, which provides MindMapping, Project Management and Conflict Resolution solutions, to build upon their 600,000 user base across the globe.

Jim Mather served as a MSP from 2003 till 2011. In 2007, he was appointed Minister for Enterprise, Energy & Tourism: a role he served until he stepped down from front line politics earlier this year. He started his career as a Chartered Accountant before moving to IBM in IT Sales & Marketing roles. Following IBM with his fellow directors he successfully built and sold “Computers for Business”, a Scottish based reseller of leading computer brands.

He brings extensive proven experience of strengthening and expanding successful businesses and his unique blend of commercial, sales, financial and systems thinking expertise will complement the skills and experience of the current Gael management team.

He comes as a very prolific user of MindGenius – having used it in nearly 200 sessions with communities and industrial sectors across Scotland in his time as minister.

Welcoming the appointment, Gael founder, Donald Maciver said: “I am delighted to announce that Jim Mather has agreed to join us as Chairman of Gael. He brings a wealth of experience from his background in IBM, his time as an entrepreneur in the IT industry and his advocacy of continuous improvement.

“Our Q-Pulse compliance management solution has grown revenues in excess of 500% over the last five years and is dominant within its marketplace. Now with the release of Gael Risk, we have an application that aids the understanding and communication of risk throughout the organisation and which continually provides management visual oversight of where change may have a negative impact on their risk profile. With this addition to our portfolio we believe we have an outstanding opportunity to take Gael to yet another level and with Jim an outstanding addition to our excellent management team, we are putting the framework in place to make it happen.

“As Enterprise Minister in the Scottish Parliament, Jim used MindGenius extensively to engage thousands of people. In doing so, he helped people see the benefits of increased collaboration, meaningful commitment to quality and the constant need to improve; all of which are key attributes in Gael’s range of products & services.”

In response, Jim Mather said: “Gael is one of Scotland’s understated success stories, with a range of products that help companies across the world manage complexity and perform at much higher levels of efficiency and effectiveness.

“Joining Gael is very close to a perfect match for me. Gael has the products needed to convert my aspirations for better and more resilient private and public sector bodies into workmanlike realities that in every case are owned and managed by increasingly well-motivated management & staff of these organisations.

“My focus will now be to help Gael build on their global leadership position in Aviation and Healthcare and help them to establish a similar level of indispensability in other key sectors.”

Gael’s Chief Executive Officer, Ashley Marron, added, “This is a fantastic appointment for Gael. It comes at a crucial time as we step up a few gears and capitalise on the market opportunity available to us across all continents. We have continually invested in the company over 19 years and the significant investment in R&D over the last 2 years at a time when most of our competitors were cutting back; has allowed us to really differentiate our offerings. We now provide iPad enabled extensions to our solutions and also provide a wide range of integration capability that allows us to deliver real value at the point of need and eliminate duplication of effort.”
